Registering a CAGR of 3.2% over the forecast period, the market value of Reciprocating Engines is expected to reach US$ 14,405.70 million in the year 2027.

Reciprocating Engines Market Overview

Reciprocating engine is a heat-generating engine that uses one or more reciprocating pistons in order to convert pressure into rotatory motion. This provides at relatively low cost, which makes it an instrumental part of ensuring a reliable and safe flow of power to the grid. The main function of a reciprocating power engine is to provide incremental peaking power to the electric grid during high-demand periods, mitigating the ups and downs of solar, wind and other variable-output generating sources, and to ensure quick-start backup generation in the event of regional or local grid outages. The market is highly driven by rapid investments toward cogeneration technology and increasing construction activities coupled with low diesel prices. Additionally, growing demand for reliable, uninterruptable and cost-effective systems for electricity generation across industrial establishments is expected to fuel the reciprocating power-generating engine market growth. These engines are commonly used in a variety of sectors. Reciprocal engines generate power by pressurizing fuel with a piston or pistons, which causes combustion and, in turn, a circular, rotating motion. The four-stroke cycle is named after the fact that reciprocating engines, like rotary engines, rely on a repeating pattern of intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust to function. Reciprocating engines are the more recent of the two types of combustion engines, and they have shown to be more efficient in many circumstances. While rotary engines have a place in the market, their applications are significantly more limited.

Industry News

Wärtsilä will introduce an engine plus emissions abatement package to meet Chinese marine engine emission standards.

July 2021--Wärtsilä will launch a combined engine plus selective catalytic reduction (SCR) packaged product to meet China's Stage II marine engine emission standard, which goes into effect in July 2021. The standard will apply to all inland waterway, coastal, river-sea, channel, and fishing vessels operating in most rivers and near the country's major ports.

A Wärtsilä 20 engine with a Wärtsilä NOx Reducer is used in the solution (NOR). The Wärtsilä NOR is designed to effectively reduce NOx emissions, while the integrated dosing equipment ensures that the correct amount of urea is applied to the system and ensures uniform mixing of the urea and ammonia with the exhaust gas.
